What images did you select for your double exposure?
For the double exposure I chose a picture of Kara with the background as the fields outside the school and the picture I overlayed onto her is a picture from the forest.
How do the objects relate compositionally?
The roots and rocks flow throughout the shape that Kara creates in relation to the edge of the fields.
How did you manipulate and modify each image?
I had to erase the edges of the forest picture so that It fit correctly into the shape after I cropped it so that the rocks and roots fit into the composition.
How do your images relate conceptually?
The picture of Kara is like a symbol of the small amount of nature found within a city environment, while the desire to seek nature is within her.
What is the subject for your photo essay and where did you take your photographs?
The Subject for my photo essay is a day with my girlfriend, Camryn. During the day, we went to her cousin's first birthday party. As a circus theme, they had little animals and activities as well as lots of candy and food. Harrison, the cute little boy pictured, is enjoying some cotton candy while Camryn and I took lots of pictures of him. In the afternoon, we went on a picnic to the park down the street from my house. I took lots of pictures of her on the way and going back, where we stopped to look at the beautiful sunset, but my focus was always on her.
Why did you select this place?
All of these places had lots of color and natural light, creating a series of vibrant photos in the beginning and progressively getting darker as you go through the story.
Why is it important to you?
I had a lot of fun with this photo essay because I got to photograph my beautiful girlfriend and document the fun we've had together. I will have these pictures forever and can look back on these great memories fondly. It was a great day; she made me extremely happy
and still does.
What concept are you trying to portray about this topic?
I'm just trying to show that Camryn is a beautiful person, inside and out.
Visually, how did your images capture the narrative or “story” of your essay?
The images show us going through the day, so as it gets closer to evening the colors tone down, but still shows all the fun we're having together.
Discuss: the order and arrangement of your photos, composition, viewpoint, angle, lighting, color vs black and white....How did you visually unify your series of photos?
I ordered the photos chronologically to show the whole day with her. The beginning is before we left, then at the party, then walking to the park. We then took a lot of pictures while we were picnicking, and I took pictures on the way back while looking at the sunset. The last picture is when we successfully made it back home. The pictures are all cropped to be the same square shape.
